Theme parties are not only for children’s birthday parties anymore. If you are looking for a good excuse for a no-reason party, then the theme party is the perfect one. No excuses, you can handle one!
Okay, you are ready to plan your first theme party. Or, you just want to plan a party and do not have a proper reason. Maybe you are just fascinated about a theme party, which is not on behalf of an 8 year old. To be honest, we are all fascinated of that. Planning a theme party takes more time than planning an average party of just getting together, but it is worth that time because the fun of organizing is already huge. Besides that, it is going to be a party about which your guests cannot stop talking for a couple of weeks.
I provide with a top ten list of themes, the list is accompanied by some ideas how to plan them. However, planning a theme party is in fact nothing more than letting your imagination go in every possible direction. Who knows where that leads? Maybe you will be hosting a different theme party every month!
10. Hollywood Party
Hollywood is about glamour, lifestyle, the rich and famous, the bold and the beautiful. Hosting a party based on all this ingredients is big fun. I bet some of your guests do have their own opinions and ideas about it. You can dedicate the party to the classic Hollywood heroes and go back on memory lane to the 50’s and 60’s; on the other hand, you can party according to today’s Hollywood standards. A Hollywood party is no party without champagne in those long stemmed glasses; you have to drink it like the rich and famous do.If you are quite sure that your friends are going crazy about the idea of a Hollywood Party, you can ask them to show up as their favorite star.
9. Beach Party
You can situate a beach party wherever and whenever you want. No matter, if you are living close to the beach, or miles away from it. The temperature may be very hot, but even when it is freezing, it will not be a problem. A beach party is always relaxing and it is big fun. Just serve some tropical colorful drinks, serve them with festive looking hors d’oeuvres. When it is cold outside, turn up the heating and encourage your guests to come in summer clothing or maybe even swimming suits. You can even buy some beach related decorations, which are very cheap because the season is over.
8. Casino Party
A casino party is a great idea for all of you who like to gamble, especially for those who like to gamble with a great number of friends. However, with a few friends it also can be big fun. I tell you how you can organize this. Start by setting up a couple of tables, indoors and/or outdoors. When you set them up outdoors, you always have to be careful with suddenly upcoming winds. Now you all can play your favorites, like Poker, Blackjack, Craps, or even Roulette. Always ensure yourself of enough space for all your guests to mingle, of course there are a few of them who do not want to play all night.
7. Traditional Afternoon Tea Party
If you are looking for a little less casual party theme, think about a traditional afternoon tea party then. This party can be held perfectly outside, in your garden, though inside should not be a problem either. You have to take care of a good stock of all kinds of tea, so a visit to your local health food store is necessary, without any doubt. Try to find some exclusive exotic tea for your guests to try. Serve it with the indispensable cucumber sandwiches. This kind of party is a big success with a smaller group of “tea freaks”. Keep your costs in mind when you are buying the tea, the more guests, the more tastes of tea you will need.
6. Wine-Tasting Party
I experienced the fun of a wine tasting party myself a little while ago. The principle is quite simple. As the name says, it is about tasting wine, now it seems very logical that there are several different wines to taste. Therefore, here is the basic idea. You ask all of your guests to bring a bottle of wine, which could be their favorite wine or a wine that they always wanted to try but so far never did. Now anyone gets a taste of something different. This kind of party is perfect suitable for the host who does not have an enormous amount of cash, but who wants to throw a party anyway. This is the kind of party where the guests bring in the main attraction!
5. Uncle Sam’s Party
If you plan to host a BBQ-party and cannot think of a proper theme to do so, why not give it an all-American theme, like Uncle Sam. Decorate your front garden, put down a huge Uncle Sam, inviting your guests to join. Serve some chips and pretzels dressed up like Uncle Sam.
Never mind the fancy steaks; it is an American party so come on with the hot dogs and hamburgers. Add some pulled pork, chicken and beer, so that anyone can eat. Oh and finally yet, importantly, do not forget the red, white and blue decorations as well as the music by Lynyrd Skynyrd!
4. Christmas in July
Now, this is something completely different. Are you tired of the heat of this time of the year? Maybe you are longing for winter and the Christmas season.
Well do not hesitate a single second, send your Christmas-themed invitations to all of your friends and invite them to an untraditional Christmas in July party. Sing along with all the traditional Christmas carols, cool your guests down with eggnog milkshakes, serve some self-baked Christmas cookies and bring Christmas time to life in July. I bet that even the most negative guests will be laughing in the end and sing along with you.
3. Moving Party
This party is dedicated to your moving to a new location. You want to say a last word of goodbye to all of your friends and see them one more time. Your invitations you can write on a piece of cardboard with a Sharpie pen. The house is already empty; you moved your stuff to the new house (except for the stereo). Ask your guests to bring their own folding chairs, at least if they do not want to sit on the floor. Serve some snacks and drinks and the party is on. Finally, there is some room to dance!
2. Potluck Pasta Party
With the right people, this party can be a whole lot of fun. Call it a potluck, but ask all of your future guests, to bring a different pasta dish with them. You yourself have to prepare something surprising. Make pasta surprise, for example with flavored noodles, a funny colored sauce, or with unexpected ingredients. To keep the talks going, you can write down the history of the different pastas on little cards and put them on the table. Serve the food any way you want it, as a sit-down dinner or in buffet style. Surprise your guests with a pasta dessert.
1. Baking Party
The baking party is best suitable for a smaller group of closest friends. When the group is too big, this party is not up to his promise. Now what you have to do is this; plan a meal, buy all the ingredients and let all guests do the cooking when they come.
Now while everyone is busy cooking, you have to provide him or her with wine, make sure you have enough of that. If you notice that one of your guests cannot handle a full meal, give him/her the task to prepare the dessert only. You can even do a cook-off if you have plenty of space. May the best team prevail!
Basically…
When it comes to a theme party, you cannot do right or wrong. Make sure you invite the right friends with your theme in mind. Give the party your own spin. Enjoy yourself and you can be sure that your friends will enjoy themselves too.
